The powerful engines of modern airplanes require airport safety measures. Some of these measures are operational, while others use jet blast deflectors.
The aircraft exhaust, by using a type of kerosene as fuel, results in gases such as:
Water vapor H2O, carbon dioxide CO2, Nitrogen Oxides (NOx), Carbon Monoxide (CO). Sulfur Compounds SO2, Fine particles, such as soot and unburned hydrocarbons.
Newer planes are much more efficient at using fuel - up to 20 percent more efficient than the planes that came before them. This means that today's planes produce 80% less carbon dioxide (CO2) per passenger seat than the first jets in the 1950s. But we've got much more to go, and much to improve.
